SPRING 2018 SESSION DATES
March 9, March 23,April 6, April 13, April 20 and April 27.
- MARCH 9TH “CREATE A PLATE”
- MARCH 23TH “WHAT IS A REACTION?”
- APRIL 6 & 13H “WHAT IS KILN CARVING?”
- APRIL 20TH “FUSED GLASS SCULPTURE”
- APRIL 27TH “CREATE AND PLAY WITH GLASS”
1st Class - "Create a Plate"
In this first class the student will learn about about different glass types from opaque to transparent, from iridescent to reactive. They will learn about the physics of glass and how to score and break glass before designing an 8*8 plate or window hanging. All glassware is food and dishwasher safe.
2nd Class - "What is a Reaction?"
Copper based blues react to glass that contains sulfur/selenium thus changing the colours, or adding a hue, or an outline. A real mind bender, but fun!
3rd & 4th Class - "What is Kiln Carving?"
Kiln Carving is a technique that combines glass fusing and slumping to give a carved effect to your glass work. We will learn the about different glass types with a focus on iridescent glass and kiln carving methods. In the 3rd Class we create a plate with a kiln carving in mind and in the 4th class we will prepare the fibre paper to achieve a bas-relief in the plate.
5th Class - "Fused Glass Sculpture"
"Create A Plate – Introduction to Fused Glass" is a prerequisite. This workshop begins with a stand for your sculpture. As the basics of glass scoring and cutting have been covered in Create A Plate class, the student can start their project as soon as the plaster base is finished and put aside to set.
6th Class - "Create & Play with Glass"
"Create A Plate – Introduction to Fused Glass" is a prerequisite. With spring around the corner, the student will apply what they have learned in previous classes and create a either a wind chime / sun catcher, or a hanging birdbath.
